Advanced Adviser Development Program

This program supports seasoned advisers in advancing their professional growth, taking on leadership roles within the advising community, and strengthening the advising profession as a whole. Participants will engage in meaningful reflection on their experiences and receive recognition for their continued development.

Program Eligibility

Current UW Seattle, UW Bothell, or UW Tacoma employee with a minimum of 2 years working in a professional advising capacity at UW and/or another institution (ex. academic adviser, program coordinator, athletic advisor).

Program Requirements

The requirements listed below allow participants to demonstrate ways they have contributed, led, and learned in their advising journey. Each component that a participant chooses must have an accompanying reflection, for a minimum of 5 reflections:1 for contributing, 3 for learning, and 1 for leading. We encourage participants to suggest their own ideas for each component. AEP is happy to assist you with ideas.

Get Started

  1. Fill out an interest form
  2. Complete each component listed below.
    • Contributing (one minimum)
      • Present at an advising-related conference (ex: UW Advising Symposium, UW/CC Advising Conference, Lunch & Learn session, NACADA, etc)
      • Create an advising resource
      • Write an article for an advising-related publication
    • Learning (three minimum)
      • Attend a UW advising presentation (ex. Lunch & Learn, Advising Symposium, master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation defense)
      • Read an advising resource
      • Attend a professional development course (ex POD course)
      • Attend a session at an advising-related conference
    • Leading (one minimum)
      • Serve on the AEP or APAC Board
      • Serve on a university wide committee (ex. Student Conduct, Reinstatement, FCAS)
      • Serve in a leadership role at a professional advising organization (ex. NACADA)
      • Mentor another adviser(s) for a quarter
      • Mentor a student(s) through the Husky Leadership Certificate Program
  3. Submit reflections to AEP's email: uwaep@uw.edu
  4. Get recognized!
    • A digital Advanced Adviser Development Program Completion Certificate
    • Your name added to the list of AADP completers on the AEP website
    • A letter from AEP to notify your supervisor of your successful completion of the Advanced Adviser Development Program
    • A campus-wide announcement and/or recognition at a campus-wide advising gathering
